Edible Action Food Activism and Alternative Economics
Miller, Sally Publisher: Fernwood Publishing Year Published: 2008 Pages: 208pp ISBN: 9781552662809 Resource Type: Book
Abstract: Sally Miller, anthropologist, environmentalist and activist who has worked in the alternative food, agriculture and co-op sectors has written a book that argues that food is particularly situated to address the ills of an unjust economic system and to mobilize people against it. Hunger and obesity are up, farms are lost to debt, food borne illnesses are up and the food system fails larger numbers of people across the world. With sections on the organic movement, co-operatives in Atlantic Canada and other issues such as food initiatives -farmers markets and fair trade coffee she believes these offer an alternative to conventional food economics which benefit only a handful of people and corporations.
