Farmageddon
Food and the Culture of Biotechnolgy

Kneen, Brewster
Publisher:  New Society Publishers
Pages:  240pp   Price:  $19.95
Resource Type:  Book

Abstract:  Kneen's book looks at the impact of biotechnology on local economies. He argues that careful public relations has largely made the public unaware of how much of what they eat is now genetically engineered: cows milk, herbicide resistant canola, BT corn, cotton and potatoes to name but a few. Corporations control the distribution of food with little knowledge or care of the health risks of engineered food. Kneen who is a former farmer is concerned for the land, the community and the farmer and posits that technology can try but cannot not replace these relationships.
